Introduction

Clusterpat.com is a free "Meta Search Engine for US and European patents," and its "underlying technology is the XSEARCH Federated Search."[1] Users can search through the homepage of Clusterpat.com within a single search form, without any defined search fields or operators.

Use

Once users have conducted a search through the search form on Clusterpat.com, they can filter and sort their results to find more relevant documents. Users can first choose to order their search results by relevance or date. Next, users can sort their results according to the following "Clusters":

  • Topic: Relevant topics are automatically generated and displayed on the left side of the screen beside the search results, with the number of designated search results in parentheses beside each topic.
  • Source: The two listed sources are the USPTO or WIPO.
  • Year: Years are listed on the left side of the page in reverse chronological order, with the number of designated search results in parentheses beside each date.
  • Applicant: Top applicants are listed on the left side of the screen, with the number of corresponding search results in parentheses beside each applicant name.

Users can click on the individual topics, sources, dates, or applicant names to narrow the search results to only the results referred to in the parentheses number. No more than 200 results seem to be retrieved at one time. Patent documents from the USPTO are viewable through Google Patents, and WIPO patent documents are viewable through WIPO PATENTSCOPE.
