This tool allows for side-by-side comparison of the patent search systems that have been reviewed by the Intellogist team. To accurately interpret the table, review the category definitions provided in the Quick Table help topic. Also, be aware that the Quick Tables data is current as of the time the Intellogist article for a given search system was last updated, with the exception of data coverage information, which is updated as we are aware of changes. For more information, see our update policies. If you have questions about the data in the tool, please contact us. If you wish to purchase printable copies of comparison tables, see our FAQ.

AssessmentQPat
Primary System StrengthsFamily citation search; unlimited left-truncation; machine translated content (replaced by hand translations when available in some cases); full text machine-assisted translated CN collection; user-defined highlighting; interactive analysis module; view full text and images side-by-side in Patent Examiner (subscription req'd).
Weaknesses and AnnoyancesFamily grouping can only be performed on 5,000 documents or fewer when using individual files; full text records are divided up into segments, slowing review time; confusing array of bibliographic display choices; search history can be accidentally erased by switching files.
Overall AssessmentThe tool is one of the only systems to offer the unique FamPat file, with its exclusive definition of patent families. Although the actual data coverage should be similar to INPADOC, this family database is divided into much smaller family units.
