Introduction

Derwent Analytics, produced by Thomson Scientific (part of Thomson Reuters), was a desktop patent and scientific data analysis tool, and it was replaced by Thomson Data Analyzer in 2006.[1][2] According to a press release from 2005, "Thomson Data Analyzer is the second incarnation of Derwent Analytics."[1]

Derwent Analytics was developed in 2002, and it was described as a "data mining and visualization software product for the desktop" that was powered by VantagePoint.[3] In 2003, an integration of Delphion and Derwent Analytics allowed users to export patent data from Delphion using a new Data Extract format and bring it into Derwent Analytics using a new import filter.[4] During this 2003 upgrade, thesaurii for Derwent Manual Codes, IPC Codes, and Derwent Abbreviations were added to Derwent Analytics.[4]
