The following is an Intellogist Help Topic

Our Interactive Patent Coverage Map is a great way to answer your country-specific system coverage questions. You can peruse a world map and select different countries of interest to see what systems offer coverage there. The results are separated by level of coverage, and a link to the country’s official patent authority has been provided where possible.

Navigation

To select a continent, either click on the image of it or select the name from the text list on the left.

After selecting a continent, either click on the image of the desired country or select the name from the text list on the left.

To return to the world map, click the “Back” button on the top left side of the map, or click ‘World View” on the top left.

The “List of Countries” box on the left side of the map offers a text list of available continents, and then a list of available countries after a continent is selected. Hovering the cursor over the country name will highlight the country on the map, and clicking the name will display coverage information for that country.

Info Box

The coverage results for a selected country are displayed in the “Info Box,” located by default on the right side of the map. The “X” in the top right corner of the box will close it, and it can be moved around the map by clicking and dragging the gray title bar.

Two kinds of links are provided in the Info Box. In most cases, links will direct you to our Report about the selected system. If a system is not linked, no Report is available. The exception is for the country’s official patent authority website. Where available, we have included a direct external link to that site. Please note that the official websites change frequently and have varying levels of support and availability.

We have subdivided the coverage results for each country into six categories:

  • “Official Sites” contains a link to the national patent authority’s website, if one is available
  • “Full Text Coverage” lists systems that are capable of searching the full text of the country’s patents
  • “Partial Text Coverage” section contains systems that can search some portion of the patent text, but less than full text
  • “Bibliographic Coverage” lists systems that search only the bibliographic data associated with a patent, not the text of the patent itself
  • “Chemical Structure Indexing” includes systems that index chemical patents by adding chemical structure searching data
  • “Image Coverage” lists systems that offer complete facsimile document images for viewing or downloading.

For more detailed information about these categories, please see our Coverage Map policies.

Major Authority Coverage

The Coverage Map also includes the major international authorities ARIPO, EAPO, EPO, GCC, OAPI, and PCT. When viewing a continent, applicable authorities will appear in blue text in the upper left corner of the map. Clicking the authority will open a list of the search systems with appropriate coverage. Information about a country’s membership in an authority is included in the entry for the country.
