Major Recent Updates

See the Intellogist update policies for more information.

December 2012

According to a Thomson Reuters representative, the CPC will not be implemented in MicroPatent, Delphion, and Aureka.[1]

November 2012

According to an announcement about the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) in the Thomson Innovation helpfiles:[2]

CPC will be made available in most Thomson Reuters patent products and services and will be represented by new fields containing both backfile and frontfile CPC data. The old ECLA and USPC fields, while no longer updated, will be retained in Thomson Reuters products to allow reference to historical data. [...]

The CPC frontfile classification data will be available in January 2013 and the backfile data will be loaded in the first quarter of 2013.

Browsing tools and help files, as well as our training and product specialists, will provide assistance during the transition period so our customers can take full advantage of the benefits of this new classification system.

April 2012

The following announcement was released on the Delphion website:[3]

In 2007, we launched Thomson Innovation® as our next-generation IP product with the goal of providing a solution that better serves the IP research and analysis needs of our customers. With its far superior patent coverage, best-of-breed search and analysis features, and enterprise collaboration capabilities, Thomson Innovation has enjoyed tremendous success in the market. Most of our former Derwent World Patents Index® (DWPI) on Delphion® customers have completed their migration to Thomson Innovation, and we are now announcing that DWPI on Delphion will no longer be available after March 31, 2012.

For more information, see this announcement on the Delphion website.

May 2011

The Delphion website posted the following announcement:[4]

This message is for customers in the US states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia and for customers in Canada.

Thomson Reuters recently completed a review of sales tax practices for the products and services it sells. Based upon this review, it has been determined that Delphion subscriptions/purchases are subject to sales tax and we will begin collecting that tax with the May 2011 billing cycle. Customers in Canada will be charged Goods and Service Tax (GST) or Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) as appropriate.

For more information, see the announcement here.

February 2009

In February 2009, a public discussion on the PIUG wiki forum took place concerning the accuracy of Delphion's INPADOC patent families.[5] A Thomson Reuters representative acknowledged that an error was discovered in its INPADOC family generation process, and stated that technical staff were working to fix the problem as soon as possible. This issue is discussed further in Family Search Features.

2007 Update

The December 2007 launch[6] of Thomson Innovation was designed to essentially replace Thomson's Delphion and MicroPatent patent search services. Although these services are still available, it is likely that any interested parties will be directed to consider the new Thomson Innovation product, rather than a subscription to Delphion.

2005 Update

In 2005, Thomson made a multi-million dollar upgrade to the system’s infrastructure. File history ordering also became available through Delphion (corresponding with Thomson’s acquisition of MicroPatent).
