November 2012

The EI website describes a new feature for Engineering Village released November 27:[1]
Updated institutional login – Shibboleth and Athens users will be asked to select their institution as part of the institutional login procedure. User’s login preference will be remembered the next time the user logs in from the same machine. Recent changes by the service provider, Eduserv, required these changes to occur.
The EI website describes a new feature for Engineering Village released November 5:[1]
The Navigator Chart & Download capability has been activated for all customers. This capability exists on the facets of the results page. The feature allows you to view facets results in a chart using the ‘view chart’ icon or download the data.
A new user guide (PDF) for Engineering Village is available for download on the Engineering Information homepage.
October 2012

According to the EI website, new features of the October 5 release of Engineering Village include:[2]
- Search History - Search history has been made easier to combine searches. Drop down connectors allows quick selection as the user's search is added to the Combine Searches box. Users still have one click capability to view query details, edit, save search or create alert. Results can be viewed by selecting the results count to view the search results.
- Selected records - Select records is now quicker to use with the ability to select up to 500 records at once and view the Selected record count from the search result page.
According to the IET website, Inspec added its 13 millionth record in October 2012.[3]

‘New Search’ button on Results List, Abstract and Detailed pages – this feature will allow you to return to your default search tab with their previous databases selections.

According to the Engineering Village website:[4]
Engineering Village will be updated and refreshed to improve usability and save users time. The current release target is July 18, 2012. All core functionality will remain along with other functionality enhancements that include:
- Search results page is easier to scan, making it faster to find an article
- “Add search field” feature has been added to Quick Search
- More facets are visible on search results page without having to scroll down a page
- Access to Search History is quicker
- Results display options include 25, 50 and 100
- Search terms in an article are highlighted for easier viewing

February 2012

According to the Engineering Village website:[5]
Referex has added 190 new titles to its 6 subject collections. These titles represent the best of what has been published in the past year, across all Elsevier imprints, and will bring the total number of e-books available on Referex to approximately 2,470.

According to the Engineering Information website, Compendex, available on Engineering Village, has reached 14 million records in February 2012, and "since 2007 Compendex has grown more than 45%, from both journals and conference proceedings." Compendex added 1 million records in 2011 alone.[6]

According to the EI website, updates to Inspec on Engineering Village include an "addition of author email address icon."[7]
June 2011

Features of the June 2011 release of Engineering Village include:[8]
- The new Author Details link will enable you to navigate directly from Compendex and Inspec articles to the SciVerse Scopus Author Profile/Preview page for each author. This will provide you with information about the author’s affiliation, publication and citation history and more. Just look for the “Tools in Scopus” section of the Abstract/Detailed display formats.
- Inspec is now mapping its own indexing schemes to the World International Patent Organisation (WIPO) International Patent Classification (IPC) scheme enabling IPC symbols to be assigned to relevant records. About 75% of Inspec records will immediately contain IPC codes, with an average of 2 codes assigned to each record.
February 2011

Features of the February 2011 release of Engineering Village include:[9]
- "Link from the abstract record in Engineering Village to Scopus to see the list of references and details about the author(s), in addition to the list of citations which was already available."
- "Link from the abstract in Scopus to the corresponding Compendex record in Engineering Village complete with hyperlinked controlled and uncontrolled terms."

According to the Engineering Information website, the Ei Thesaurus 6th Edition is available:[10]
Over 370 new access and retrieval routes have been included, as well as updated and new classification codes, plus:This 6th Edition appears to have been released in December 2010, according to the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.[11]
- 10,200 preferred terms, including 370 new terms
- 9,420 non-preferred terms (synonyms)
- Alphabetical arrangement
- Details including history, scope, relationships and variants

According to the November 2010 Engineering Village Newsletter:[12]
We're pleased to announce that the wait for the Referex Frontlist is over. Users can access 137 titles today across six subject collections, with an additional 34 titles to be added in January 2011. By releasing these titles in two groups, we can include some of the latest titles from 2010 in the second release.

According to the Engineering Information website:
Engineering Village customers subscribing to Compendex and Scopus are be able to see the Scopus Cited By count for every abstract. EV users can immediately see how many times a particular article has been cited from more than 18,000 titles covered within Scopus. This feature gives users an indicator of scientific value for a particular article. Even if an EV user is not subscribed to Scopus, they will see the cited by count and view the citation lists in Scopus with limited access to other functionalities. A sample results set and record are below.[13]

Under the agreement, engineers and researchers can access SAE International’s more than 20,000 technical papers written between 1906 and 1979, as well as SAE’s International’s entire library of 88,000 documents utilizing subject-specific indexing and contextualized searching via Elsevier’s online solutions External link Scopus, the world’s largest abstract and citation database and Compendex on Engineering Village, delivering 12 million indexed bibliographic citations and abstracts from thousands of engineering journals and conference proceedings.

According to the ElSevier website, Engineering Village announced "the addition of over 300 new titles from both Elsevier imprints and William Andrew Publishers to its Referex engineering-focused e-books database."[15]
May 2008
As of May 2008, GeoRef and GeoBase database incorporate Google Maps to visualize search results on an interactive map. The GeoBase section of this article provides a screenshot of the feature.
