Flagging Results
Flagging documents of interest is possible at any time from the hit list or the individual record view. To accomplish this, users merely have to tick the small check box associated with that document. In the hit list, this check box appears to the far right of the patent title, while in the individual record view, it appears at the top of the page.
Once flagged, the document is immediately placed into the "My patents" list, which stores up to 100 documents for up to 1 year (this number was increased from 20 documents by a 2008 enhancement). When documents are placed into the "My patents" list, they always appear in any search results with a tick mark already placed in the check box, to indicate that they are currently saved. Unlike some subscription services, esp@cenet does not offer bulk downloading services, so the only purpose of flagging a document is to save it for later reference.
One limitation of the check box feature is that XP documents (non-patent documents) cannot be tagged or saved.
More about the "My patents" list is discussed in the next section of this article, Saving Results.
