Other Features

This section discusses any topics not covered in the rest of the article, and reviews particularly notable highlights from the system.

Image Mosaics – the EPO produces image mosaics, and these are hosted by the Espacenet service, although other subscription services often link to them. For more information about Image mosaics, see Viewing Patent Drawings, above.

Translation feature – English can be translated in to Italian, French, German, Portuguese or Spanish. Non-English languages can be translated into English. For more information on Espacenet’s translation feature, see Viewing Full Text, above.

Bibliographic data, legal status data, and downloadable patent PDF copies on the web for free – the most unique feature of Espacenet is the cost. Many subscription search providers charge users to download patent PDF copies even today, when they are free online at Espacenet. A bulk downloading feature is now available through the "My patents list," where the user can download up to 30 patents into a single PDF. The bulk download feature has the 30-document limit and often doesn't function correctly, however, which gives the commercial vendors an edge. Espacenet is probably one of the largest providers of free data on the web. It is also probably the largest provider of free searchable patent data and downloadable patent PDFs.

Error reporting - The individual record view contains a link to "report a data error" directly to Espacenet. Clicking on the link loads a correction form which asks for some personal details including name and e-mail address as well as a correction request section that allows the user to designate the type and extent of the error.
