Alerts
In 2008, Google Patents began offering RSS feeds on search strings conducted in the database. These RSS feeds will show users when any new patents are added that fulfill the search criteria, and as such they function as an alerting service.
In the figure below, a Google Patents search was conducted on the phrase “battery charger.” At the bottom of the first page of results, the system presents the option to set the results of this search string as an RSS feed.
Google Patents naturally supports a number of RSS feed readers and applications, and users may set their own preferences.
