Security
Security for the subscription website is available in the form of a secure https:// connection, an industry standard secure access protocol. There are no known security issues.
The IP.com Intellectual Property Library is a free site, and searches are not private. In fact, the "interesting queries" section of the website lists some highlighted queries conducted in the database.[1] Searchers should not expect privacy when searching through this interface.
Login/Logoff (Subscription Interface)
Login to IP.com Prior Art Database is done with a simple username and password. The screenshot below shows the straightforward IP.com login page. A login and password are required for all users with the exception of those using a “Guest” account. A guest account is free and does not require a username or password, however the functionality available to a guest user is very limited. A search performed by a guest user is NOT encrypted, the number of search results is limited to 5 records (as opposed to 500 with a subscription) and only a limited preview of each record is displayed. Purchasing a paid search subscription affords the user additional functionality such as date browsing, saved searches, and concept searching.
Logging out of IP.com can be done at anytime by clicking the “Logout” link at the bottom of the navigation menu on the left side of the screen. The following screenshot shows the confirmation screen that lets the user know that they have been successfully logged out of the system. Users are automatically logged off after several minutes of inactivity.
