Viewing Individual Records

The Subscription Interface

The first page of each record in IP.com can be viewed for free; however, users must purchase the document in order to view it fully.

From the hit list, selecting any record will display the Record Preview page. This page displays more detailed information pertaining to the document. On this screen the user sees the document title, a full abstract with highlighted search terms, publication date, language of publication, author information, relevancy score (out of five stars), and a document preview consisting of a choice between a “Thumbnail View” or a “First Page View.”

The Thumbnail View, shown below, displays small “thumbnail” images of all pages of the result document. These images are too small for the text to be readable, but they give a high-level depiction of the document. To see all of the pages full size, the user must purchase and download the document.

The screenshot below shows the First Page View mode of viewing an individual result record. An image of the first page of the document is viewed for free in this mode. If the user wishes to view the rest of the document, it must be purchased and downloaded.

Navigating to the other record in the hit list can be done using the various navigational links on this page. Users do not need to return to the hit list before viewing the next record.

The Free Intellectual Property Library Interface

The free search interface available from the IP.com Intellectual Property Library can also search through the IP.com Prior Art Database. Below is an example of a full record view when the search is conducted through this free interface.

As seen in the screenshot below, only a brief preview of the document is available from the website for free. Subscribers to the Prior Art Database can log in to the subscription service and access the full document by selecting "Get Disclosure" from the menu box to the right of the page.

Selecting "Get Disclosure" loads the result page below. Thumbnail images of the first four pages of the disclosure are displayed on this page. The page also includes a Download tab where users can purchase the disclosure.
