Knovel has implemented a series of "products enhancements" intended to simplify searching on Knovel. The marquee features highlighted by Knovel are:
- Improved Search Results Display: Hits are now organized by the publication in which they were found. Each publication displays a small sublist of relevant hits, each of which includes a relevancy ranking on a percentage scale and a link to the actual text. By default, only the top five most relevant hits are included in the entry for each publication, but a "Show more results" link beneath each will produce the full list of hits.
- Keyword Auto-Complete: As the user types the search string, Knovel will display a drop-down list of similar terms gleaned from their database.
- Spell Check: Knovel will now offer a Google-like "Did you mean?" suggestion for any search terms that may be misspelled.
- Suggested Search Terms: Akin to the Auto-Complete feature above, Knovel intends the list of similar terms to include suggestions for alternative terms.
- Graphs, Equations, and Tables Search: A focused search tool, the new G.E.T search offers a way to limit the scope of your search to just graphs, equations and tables throughout Knovel's database. This new interface replaces the Fielded Search tool which is no longer available.
These changes were featured in Knovel's "Lab" before being rolled out to the public shortly thereafter. For more information, please see Knovel's official blog post about the changes here: http://knovelblogs.com/2009/08/knovel-keeps-evolving/
