Viewing Full Text
If the subscription allows, the user can open the full-text by clicking on the Text PDF icon.
This will open up only the full-text for the selected section of the Knovel ebook. The option to load selected portions of the text speeds loading time, as only a section needs to be downloaded rather than the entire document. The PDF may or may not contain bookmarks for the document. Some documents that contain bookmarks will include bookmarks for the entire document, while others will only show bookmarks for the section that was opened.
The PDF viewer in Knovel maintains most of the functionality of a regular PDF viewer, and most importantly, retains the ability to save a section to a local directory. If the document includes bookmarks for the entire title, for example, the Energy Efficiency Manual, the user can save each section to their hard drive, and when viewing the PDFs later outside of Knovel, the sections downloaded can be accessed through the bookmark menu. Trying to access sections not yet saved will produce an error until that particular section is downloaded.
Editor's Note:This save a section feature is helpful for users who regularly access a particular title, as they can save a section each time they view the title, and gradually build up to having a saved copy of the title available offline.
