Alerts/SDIs

Current awareness alerts for new substances in MARPAT must be set-up separately from alerts in the REGISTRY/CAplus files. The former is set-up through a MARPAT alert, while the latter is configured through a SMARTracker alert (see this STN Quick Reference Card (PDF) for more information about the SMARTracker feature).

MARPAT alerts are run every 2 weeks.

To configure an alert in MARPAT, users must define the structure as they normally would, as appropriate for a generic structure searching effort. After this is accomplished, entering the command “SDI” will begin the dialog to define the alert.

The system will request the following data:

  • A name for the alert
  • An e-mail address to receive the alert notification
  • A reference number for the search (which the user may enter in order to track search costs to a client or department)
  • The type of search: substructure (SSS) or closed substructure (CSS)
  • The MARPAT display format in which the answers should be delivered (example: BIB ABS FHIT)

Users may also request to have the SDI answers archived as a saved results set. The system default is to print a maximum of 100 hits.
