Uploading a Query via the Command Line Interface

Once logged in to the system, all search commands must be entered at the STN command prompt, shown in the figure below. Uploading a query is accomplished by selecting the upload query icon, and choosing a saved structure from the file directory where it was previously saved.

The command prompt in a new session. The upload query icon is visible in the top menu bar.

The Discover! Wizard is also shown in the figure above. This window can sometimes take the place of the command line interface, and a running record of the user’s active search history will appear in version 8.3 and above of the software. To learn more about the Discover! aspect of STN Express with Discover!, see the STN article.

Before uploading a query, the user must enter the MARPAT file. Once a query has been uploaded successfully into the database, it will be placed into an “L-number” within STN. L numbers in general are used to refer to lists of search results, but they can also contain a chemical structure query. After a query is uploaded, users should display the contents of the L-number using the display command (D). The structure will be shown in the STN session transcript. The figure below shows an example of an uploaded structure query.

An uploaded structure query is displayed in the session transcript.
