Searchable Datafields

MARPAT can only run searches in the generic structure indexing data assigned to patent records. Document bibliographic data, abstracts, and CAS indexing (including the classification code "/CC", supplementary term "/ST" and indexing terms "/IT" fields) are NOT searchable in MARPAT. This data is available for display purposes only. To refine a MARPAT search using one or more of these fields, users will have to switch into the CAplus file to continue the search. The Basic Index "/BI" can be text-searched in MARPAT. This index is made up only of single-word terms from the textual information associated with the Markush structure indexing. Text notes may occur anywhere a patent document refers to a portion of a Markush structure in a way that cannot be represented by CAS indexing conventions such as variable groups (described further in the Variable Groups section).

In addition, the system can be searched by a number of system entry data fields, such as Accession number "/AN", Entry date "/ED", and Update date "/UP".
