Managing Search Histories

In MMS, search queries and answer sets will be automatically retained for up to 1 week at no charge (the system’s cache of temporarily saved results is usually cleared on Saturdays). These items will remain automatically in the QT (Query Text) input, or in one of the four system “Mem” lists (temporary memory lists, MEM1-MEM4). Once the user saves a query or a results set using the “STO” command, they will then be saved until they are deleted. For any permanently saved queries or answer sets kept longer than 1 week, charges will apply.

The following commands in Questel allow users to view and manage their saved queries and results:

HI R History of answer sets of the current week
HI QU History of saved queries
HI CN History of saved CN lists
HI BT History of saved Batch or Power-Batch
HI QO History of saved Questel•Orbit lists (lists of CN numbers that are extracted from bibliographic records and imported into MMS).
BACKUP Remove the last search statement
BACKUP n Remove the search statements after and including the search statement number (N)
KEEP m-n Keep the selected search statements in the strategy while removing others
ER Erase the last search statement from the strategy
ERSLL Erase all existing search statements
SAVE search name Save a search temporarily (kept 7 days free of charge)
STORE search name Save a search permanently
EXECUTE search name
or EX < search name >
Execute a saved or stored search
EX from < file > Execute the strategy from a previous file in a new file
PURGE search name Erase a saved or stored search

It is also possible to manage search strategy from the Imagination interface. The two figures below show examples of this feature being conducted from the Search Strategy Management wizard in the results tab.

Managing Search Histories in JChem

According to the JChem user guide:[1]

When a query is executed the query definition and the hit list is saved for you to use again in the future. This is done using the Lists and queries window. This window is open by default, but if it is closed, you can open it by choosing Window -> Lists and queries. The window contains nodes representing queries and lists.

The help guide goes on to describe how to create temporary and permanent queries in JChem:[1]

When a query is executed, a temporary query is created, allowing you to re-execute it at a later time. Like lists, there are two types of query - temporary and permanent. Like lists, they can be renamed or deleted. Temporary queries can be made permanent and vice versa.

A full description of how to save and manage queries in JChem can be found here.
