Family Search Features

In general, family searching for DWPI records found through MMS is unnecessary, since DWPI is a database that has already been organized by family structure. If family data is needed for Pharm records, these patent numbers must be saved to Questel’s temporary memory (MEM1-4) and extracted into the FAMPAT, PLUSPAT or DWPI family databases on Questel.

According to a presentation available on the ChemAxon website,[1] Markush structures stored in the MMS database "relate to a specific patent family (the individual patents can be seen in the XML datafeed of the DWPI record)." Therefore, the MMS records viewed on any platform (Questel, STN, or ChemAxon) correspond to a patent family instead of a single patent document. The individual patent documents that make up the family are viewable on JChem. In both the Grid and Form views of the Markush records on JChem, the priority documents for the patent family are listed under the heading "Priorities," and the individual patent family members are listed under "Patents."
