Editor's Note:The French text has been indexed without accents or diacritical marks, but is sometimes displayed with these marks (when the data is available). Interestingly, although the search algorithm will retrieve words regardless of their accents, the advanced highlighting features in PatBase do not recognize accented characters as equivalent to their non-accented versions. For example, on a full-text search for “cable car” – PatBase retrieved FN = 30670898, a record with a French member containing the text “câble car.” However, the automatic keyword highlighting feature did not also recognize “câble” as equivalent to “cable”, as the search algorithm did.
