China
In June of 2009, Questel released a beta collection of full text English machine translations of Chinese (CN) patent documents.[1] In July of 2009, the collection data had been fully loaded and extended back to 1985.[2] The collection includes published applications, granted patents, and utility models.
According to QPat representatives, a collection of front page images and in-text (or embedded) images for these documents was being loaded into the system as of June 2009.
Editor's Note:As China increases in importance in the world of intellectual property, English machine translations of this patent collection are becoming much more necessary. Although other search providers are offering some English-language Chinese data, Questel is one of the few to offer a full text machine-aided collection. One competitor is Thomson Innovation, which offers machine-aided translation for CN titles, abstracts, and claims.
