Stacking Queries

Queries can only be combined when they are part of the active session history. To combine queries, users must refer to them by their assigned line numbers, and use Boolean logic in the search bar at the top of the page. Searches can be combined using the AND, OR, and NOT operators.

The figures below show an example of combining a text search and a classification search using the “AND” operator. This combination requires the system to display hits that are found in the given IPC classification from query 2, but that also contain the keywords in query 1. The maximum number of hits that can result from this combination is 60, the number of results from the smaller hit list (query 2).

Stacking queries from the current search history page.

Combined queries can be used to narrow, combine or refine results. The combination in this figure resulted in a smaller hit list of results that satisfy conditions of both queries 1 and 2.
