Login and Logout
The QPAT service is accessed via the login screen at www.qpat.com; the system can remember a user name/password combination. The log-in screen also prompts users to designate a sub-account name for their session. (This option is for searchers who need to track database use for a specific project; see Pricing for more information).
From this page, the user can switch to a French, Japanese, and the recently added German-language interface, or choose to log-on via a secure connection. A link to the help desk is provided, and the PDF user guide for the system is available for downloading. New system features are advertised in a scrolling mini-window.
Once logged in, QPAT will stay active until the user chooses to log-off, or closes the browser window, or until 24 hours has passed. The 24-hour maximum session time is convenient to users who will be multitasking during their search, and since QPAT is available on a flat-fee subscription, it does not result in unexpected charges when the window is left open.
In version 5.0, QPAT introduced a feature where sessions are saved for up to two hours after log-off. If a user attempts to log back in within two hours of last use, a check box under the user ID/password fields will prompt the user to “continue last session,” if desired. See Managing Search Histories, for more information.
