Searchable Datafields
The type of available searchable data field depends on the file currently loaded into Qweb. When searching without a field qualifier, Qweb defaults to searching the Basic Index for the selected file (the Basic Index usually contains all of the subject related fields of a given file, such as the title, abstract, and index terms).
When entering a search query, field qualifiers can be used in the “/field term” or “term/field” format and it is possible to qualify a term to multiple fields at once by using the “term/field1/field2” format.
For in-depth information on the specific allowable data fields in each file offered on Qweb, please refer to the database fact sheets here.
Editor's Note:Qweb offers a wide range of searchable data fields for each file. Patent and non-patent literature files alike have detailed and exhaustive field coverage. The searchable data field coverage compares with other in-depth command line search systems for search professionals such as STN and Dialog. One thing to note is that data fields in regional patent office files are not updated with new classification information, and FamPat or PlusPat must be used to effectively search this information.
