Document Delivery
All patent documents on file, except for Japanese documents, are available as free PDF downloads. All downloading must be done through the system's "cart" interface, which requires users to send documents to the cart (via icons available in the hit list, individual record view, portfolio, or any other part of the site where patent documents are displayed) or directly import documents in the "My Cart" interface, shown in the screenshot below.
For more information on image coverage, see the Data Coverage Summary section.
Editor's Note:The ability for users to perform batch downloading in SumoBrain is the major benefit that it offers over sister site FreePatentsOnline. Importing multiple documents at once, and then downloading the batch with a couple of additional clicks, is a time saving process for those who simply want to download a list of known documents.
However, one major downside to SumoBrain's document delivery features is that the system does not allow users to view or download individual patents directly from the individual record view. The end result is that users must follow additional process steps after successfully finding an interesting record to obtain an image of the patent document, which most will find to be an unfortunate tradeoff.
