The Surf-IP search platform ceases operation as of September 30, 2011. A list of websites of other IP offices where users can conduct patent, trademark, and design searches will be posted by IPOS after Surf-IP ceases operations.

Export Functions

Surf IP provides a variety of ways to export the list of documents shown on the results page. A dropdown menu, shown in the figure below, allows the user to export bibliographic data to Excel, Word, CSV, .txt, or PDF formats. The exporting features work when viewing either the combined results or the results from an individual government patent authority, via the Surf IP interface.

Exporting a results list.

Regardless of the export format chosen, the results are shown in a format similar to the results page on the Surf IP web interface. The user should keep in mind that only the documents appearing on the screen at the time of exporting will appear in the exported document. So if the search contains several pages of results, the user will have go to each page individually to export all of the results, a very time-consuming process when exporting large results sets.

The user may also export as a .txt, HTML page, or PDF to a chosen email address. The export format follows the same guidelines above.

editors note iconEditor's Note:

Depending on the quantity of search results, exporting to PDF can be time-consuming compared to other export options. It is especially limiting that the system only allows the export of a single page of results at one time.

Additionally, several tests to export to PDF ended in the page stalling and the export failing. After contacting technical support, the issue appears to have been due to local settings. Users should keep this in mind when using the PDF export functions.
