Corporate Tree Data
TotalPatent contains a company thesaurus that consists of hierarchies of parent and subsidiary company names. This collection is called the Directory of Corporate Affiliations (DCA) and is produced by LexisNexis.[1] Users can look up parent/subsidiary company information with the "Find Subsidiary Companies" tool within TotalPatent and then include the results directly into a patent search query by clicking on a company name result.
To find out more about the LexisNexis Directory of Corporate Affiliations file, please see the DCA homepage. For an example of the corporate lookup function in TotalPatent, see the Advanced Search Form section of this article.
Editor's Note:While Thomson Reuter's products, such as Thomson Innovation and Dialog, contain corporate tree data from 1790 Analytics, products from Reed Elsevier, such as TotalPatent, contain corporate tree data from the Directory of Corporate Affiliations (DCA), a file produced by Reed Elsevier's LexisNexis. Searchers should be aware that two different search products are querying two different databases.
