According to TotalPatent representatives, machine translation data most commonly includes translated titles, descriptions, and claims of the patent document.
Editor's Note:Although TotalPatent coverage page lists machine translated coverage for these authorities, it is difficult to test for the presence of this data. The only way to search machine translations for given country collections is to select the "also search for terms in English machine translations" option before running a search. This option is discussed further in the Advanced Search Form section of this article.
When searching machine translated text, the original language text is also searched. There is no way for a user to only search the machine translated text. The limited search can lead to erroneous results when searching using truncation because terms in the non-English text will be returned as hits as well. This creates the potential for a noisy and confusing set of results.

Other Coverage
Citations: According to representatives, citation data in TotalPatent is provided by “a variety of sources” including the EPO’s INPADOC file. Although the system does not provide specific citation coverage data, it is reasonable to assume that the citation coverage in this tool is about equal to other systems that receive the EPO’s data.
Legal Status: Legal status data in TotalPatent is from the INPADOC file produced by the EPO (which includes legal status data for 61 issuing authorities).
Family Data: Family data in TotalPatent is taken from the INPADOC bibliographic file. Three family definitions are used, “Main” (exactly the same Priority Number), “Extended” (all publications having directly or indirectly a Priority Number in common), and INPADOC (patent family information from the International Patent Documentation Center (INPADOC), including legal status, when available).[5]
Document Images: Document facsimile images are available for viewing within the system interface (without download). These images may not be available for all portions of every collection. The coverage table indicates that "Facsimile plus front page and other images" are available for the following patenting authorities: AR, AT, AU, BE, BG, BR, CA, CH, CN, CS, CZ, DD, DE, DK, EA, EE, EP, ES, FI, FR, GB, HR, HU, IN, IT, JP, KR, MX, NL, NO, PL, PT, RO, RU, SE, SL, SK, US, TR, WO.[1]
