Editing Saved Queries

In TotalPatent, editing a search query has two different effects depending on whether a “Recent” or a “Saved” search has been edited. Under the Recent Searches tab, selecting “Edit” will load the selected query into the search page, where it can be altered and re-run. The new query will appear under the Recent Searches tab as a new search. Under the Saved Searches tab, selecting “Edit” will load the selected query into an Edit Saved Searches/Alerts page, which appears very similar to the search form except that it has fields for users to give a new name to their search and to select an existing project ID, if desired. The figure below shows this special edit window.

The Edit Saved Searches/Alerts Window.

Under the Saved Searches tab, there is an additional “Copy” option that may be used instead of “Edit,” which will produce another version of the query which the user can then edit, thus preserving the original. When the user selects the "Copy" option beside a saved query, a menu appears where the user can enter a name for the copy (optional) and select a destination folder for the copied query. The “Copy” option is not available under the Recent Searches tab. The user guide states that the “Copy” option is particularly useful when the user wishes to combine search strings.[1] More information is provided in the Stacking Queries section of this article.
